Winter Wanderings

Now that January has arrived, we've decided that it's time to think about shedding some of the extra pounds we gained during the holidays.  So last weekend we went for a small hike at Schoodic Point. Located across the narrows from Mt. Desert Isle, Schoodic is a relatively quiet part of Acadia National Park.  Now that we've visited the area, we can't figure out why.  It's gorgeous!  There is stunning scenery everywhere, including views of Cadillac mountain across Frenchman's Bay.
We drove around park roads, stopping often to absorb the stunning views, like the Mark Island Lighthouse.
Annabel and Thane, as always, relish a chance to explore the rugged Maine coast.
Yesterday we hiked a few miles around the woods behind our home.  We located one of the old beaver dams on Libby Brook (you can just make it out under the birch tree in the photo above).

We found some cool lichen growing on trees, and studied beautiful three dimensional ice sculptures made by Mother Nature herself.  We have come to really enjoy the solitude of our winter wanderings, and we always find it rewarding to take...
...the road less traveled.
