Crater Lake

Today we arrived at the pristine Crater Lake.  Created by a volcanic eruption about 7,700 years ago, the lake is fed only by rain and snow fall.  (The area averages 44 ft of snow in the winter!  That's 4-4!!)  Since no impurities from outside the Crater are able to enter, the lake is clear and as blue as it can be.  We watched a movie about the Lake at the Visitors Center, and then drove the 33 mile loop around the rim.

Early into the drive, we decided to hike up Watchman Mtn to see the fire tower.  It was a moderate 1.6 mile trip with spectacular views.
When we returned to our travel trailer, we learned that the RV park was sponsoring an old fashioned sing-along and hot dog/s'more's roast.  The kids were in their element!
Tomorrow we are planning a couple more hikes to see some more of this gorgeous park.
