Crater Lake Hikes

We spent another gorgeous day at Crater Lake.  First we went on a short, warm-up hike to the Pinnacles, cool spires made of volcanic pumice that have eroded over time.
Then we headed over to Mount Scott, the highest peak in the park (8934 ft).  This mountain has a 4.6 mile hiking trail with an elevation change of 1259 feet.
We checked out the trail last night, and (quite honestly) the kids and I were a bit trepidatious about this strenuous trek.
The kids did great!  Annabel had some breathing issues in the high altitude, but she pushed through and was happy to explore the ridge at the top and walk up to the fire tower.
The view of the lake from this vantage point is pretty incredible, as was the ice cream cones we treated ourselves to on the way home.
