The Best Laid Plans...

To say that the past few months have been busy would be an understatement.  Life in the U.S. is busy in general, but our lives kicked into overdrive on October 7th.  As you may remember, this is the day that Hamas troops invaded Israel, starting a war that continues to echo across the globe today.  We were devastated for the Israeli people.

On a more personal note, Jordan and I had tickets to leave for a 2-week tour of Israel, Wadi Rum and Petra just 16 days later.  As the days went by and the situation grew worse, we realized that our long-awaited trip was going to have to wait a little longer.  We spent the next 7 days waiting for the airlines to cancel our tickets so that we could start working on plan B, which left us only 8 full days to research and plan an entirely new trip.  We were originally meeting our wonderful friends, Kelly & Michele Shore, in Israel, so including them was a must.  Except that they were in Italy & Greece, often without internet service.  Oh ya- Jordan and I were both working full time during all of this!

We actually organized two itineraries - one that included southern France and one Switzerland.  God definitely directed our paths, and we ended up with the Switzerland option.  But first...

Since our original flights included a layover in Munich, we decided to include this in our schedule.  We flew overnight from Denver, and then took the train into the city.  Our VRBO was a 7th story apartment (no stairs) near the historic section of the city.  We unloaded our luggage and spent a few hours walking the markets and touring churches, gardens and historic sites.  We timed our walk to see a performance of the famous Rauthaus-Glockenspiel.

The next day I was very pleased to check off a bucket list item when we took a journey through the Bavarian Alps and toured Neuschwanstein Castle.

The castle, designed and built for Mad King Ludwig has a fascinating and tragic history, as the King only lived in this home for 172 days.  The castle was never completed, but the parts that are finished are pretty quirky and cool.

We spent the rest of the day exploring the castle grounds and the beautiful surrounding countryside.
