Chopped!

Like most households with school aged children in America right now, the reality of a 4-8+ week quarantine is sinking in like a stone.  More like a boulder!  Our local school system is not planning to assign schoolwork until the end of the month, and Annabel & Thane are especially bummed to be home since we were planning to tour 3 national parks and visit my family in Arizona during spring break.  So we've had to get creative with our spare time.
Today we played a game of Chopped, taken from the popular Food Network show.  It was a last minute idea, so I just grabbed leftover food we had laying around.  The kids had 40 minutes to make a meal out of noodles, tomato paste, turkey, a dill pickle, pretzels and an apple.  They were also limited to the use of 4 additional ingredients and 1 spice.
Thane made a tomato & pickle dip, pasta and fried apples with bacon.  Annabel also made pasta with sauce; for dessert she made fried apples with melted chocolate and pretzel pieces dusted with powdered sugar.
We all agreed that the best dish was Thane's dip, but Annabel's dessert was delicious and was plated perfectly!  We're already planning for a rematch next week.  The kids want to be challenged and have requested that I find more quirky ingredients.  We'll keep you posted!
