We spent a wonderful 4th of July celebrating with friends in scenic Cutler. What a wonderful day! Each year the Cutler community gets together and plans a kid-centric day of festivities, including lobster crate racing:
and a bunch of old fashioned contests: coke guzzling, whistling (after eating crackers with peanut butter on them), gunny sack and 3-legged races, etc. Annabel & Thane came in 2nd & 3rd place in a few events - but they could have cared less. They were having too much fun to worry about winning or losing!Later we managed to get a spot on the fastest lobster boat (the Tornado) during the races. What a thrill!
After all of the activity -and several visits to the picnic table!- the kids spent the rest of the evening swimming in the frigid harbor waters. Thane was the first to jump off the dock, and he wasn't quite able to hide the shock of the cold:
It was a great ending to a great day. We are so grateful to live in this great country. No matter how we may feel about current events and the differences that seem to tear us apart, America is still an amazing place to live. There is hope and promise here, and God even sent us a little rainbow as a reminder.
Happy Independence Day!
