It's been a busy July, and we are loving the mild summer weather here on the coast. We've gotten down to Great Wass Island a couple of times, once to visit our old friends the Salatas.
Last weekend, my Aunt Bonnie & Uncle Lennie stopped by for a brief visit. I hadn't seen them in years, and it was wonderful to catch up. We discovered that Aunt Bonnie likes lighthouses, and it was truly a pleasure to introduce her to West Quoddy, a working lighthouse.
West Quoddy is in nearby Lubec, where the sun first shines in this easternmost point in the States.
We were fortunate enough to arrive during a time when visitors are allowed to climb up the tower to see the actual light.
Thane was especially enthralled with the mechanics of the light.
A distant relative of mine was a lighthouse keeper who raised his family on an island 40 miles out to sea. A kindred spirit, then.

Halibut
Jordan has had a busy summer building his business, gardening, compiling huge stacks of wood and watching the kids. So he was THRILLED to get an opportunity to go fishing with some buddies from church.
He reeled in the very large (and delicious!) halibut that he is holding. Just another day in Downeast Maine!
