Through all of the upheaval of the past year, the one thing that has consistently bothered the kids is the absence of our beloved dog Angus. Angus has been staying with Jordan's folks since we left Colville, where he has been loved and spoiled rotten. Now that we are a week away from moving into our new place, it was a good time to get Angus back. (Not to mention that, 7 months later, he'd long overstayed his welcome!)
Poor Angus was VERY traumatized by the two flight, red eye journey from the west coast. This was followed by a 4+ hour car ride back to Machias. Thankfully, he survived the ordeal, and the kids were thrilled to have him back. We're confident that he'll adjust to his new surroundings in no time. Welcome home, Angus dog!

My Heart Smelts for You
One of the perks of the new house is playing in the brook, which empties out into the tidal Machias River right across the road. It's especially nice this time of year when the smelt are running. Local legend dictates that the best time to smelt is on the evening of a full moon when the tide is almost high. We were fortunate enough to experience this phenomenon a few weeks back, and Jordan went down to the brook to test the theory. Score! We got a bucketful and had a tasty dinner the following evening:
Annabel really enjoyed the fried fish - tail and all. (Ugh!)
Now if we could only find a way to can them...
